João van Zeller is pleased to announce the release of the 2006 Vintage Port from their acclaimed vineyard, widely regarded as one of the Douro’s finest estates.
Only the very finest Port produced at the property in 2006 has been selected for bottling after a rigorous tasting process over many months. Just 500 cases 12/75cl of Roriz will be bottled, all of which will be released ‘En Primeur’.

Picking
The Vintage at Quinta de Roriz began on the 12th of September, with the grapes in excellent condition, and was concluded by the 29th of September.
Vinification
Fermentation with natural yeast.
Fortification at 8° Baume.
All the grapes were picked by hand and foot trodden in the Quinta's own stone
lagares. On the night after picking and filling the lagares, the grapes were
trodden for three hours by a team of 20 men. The following day treading was
resumed by a smaller team of about 10 men for a further three hours during the
day and then another three in the evening. Once the cap rose, the lagares were
worked with 'macacos' by groups of between 4 and 6 men.
The musts were characterised by above-average initial baumés, allowing for
prolonged fermentations. This no doubt contributed to the concentration of the
wines.
Technical Specifications
Alcohol by volume: 20% v/v (20º)
Total acidity: 4.87 g/l
Baumé: 3.9
Each component of the blend was held in the Quinta's wooden vats for one year
after which it was racked and blended. Bottling will take place in May 2008. The wine has no filtration or fining whatsoever.
Tasting note
At Quinta de Roriz the classic schistous soil of the Upper Douro predominates, but the soil composition and structure are particular to this property. The Quinta also has tin and traces of gold and this unique mineral structure at Roriz brings a strong individual personality to the wines. Quinta de Roriz 2006 Vintage Port is very dark in colour. On the nose it has lifted aromas of berry fruit and ripe plums. The mouth is palate filling, and very long, with tremendous grip.
