Quinta de Roriz
Douro DOC Reserva Red 2005

Consumo: 2007-2015"

The winter of 2005 was typically cold although unusually dry. These conditions brought about slightly later than usual budburst.

Spring was considerably warmer than usual and the dry weather continued creating some concern particularly as 2004 had also registered little rain. The very hot conditions continued throughout the summer and it became clear that a serious drought was being experienced. Eight consecutive months of above average temperatures created extreme conditions for the vines. This was particularly aggravated by no rain at all being registered in July and August.

These conditions led to one of the earliest starting vintages on record. Some rain fell on the 7th and 9th September, which was extremely beneficial as it was followed by sunny and dry weather. Overall 2005 was a very good vintage, however, quality varied considerably between varieties and different properties.
